You will be joining a new team of Headforwards developers working with a health technology client in Worthing. Our client is investing in significant improvement to their development processes and Headforwards are helping them achieve this. We are building a team of full-stack web developers to augment the existing client team. This team will be responsible for delivering a fundamental shift in application architecture and working practices.
We are looking at a complete overhaul of the current code base, splitting the system into discrete vertical domains, automating testing throughout the stack, and moving everything to a scripted continuous delivery model. We aiming for at least weekly release cycles with a new docker based continuous delivery process. While the initial focus is all about getting the fundamentals in place to build, once that is in place we will be looking at leveraging the existing data to provide clear analytics to the business – can ML help us here? We think there is an opportunity to streamline the customer experience and the experience for the health screeners by leveraging mobile devices more. So there is loads of possibility for you to scratch your technology itch here.
The current applications are PHP based using Laravel with mainly Angular front-ends. The database in MySQL and the whole system is hosted in AWS. We think this stack will stay pretty consistent as the core for the future but we are right at the start of the journey so you will be involved in the decisions.

Essential experience and skill requirements
- Knowledge of PHP and Laravel
- Experience building web applications using Angular
- Knowledge of Agile development methods and practices
- Understanding of Refactoring and SOLID principles
- Keen desire to continually learn new things
- Experience writing unit and integration tests, TDD experience is a bonus
- Knowledge of AWS
- Experience using Docker
- Source control using Git
- Pair Programming experience
- Experience with building or working with automated continuous delivery pipelines would be an advantage
